How to take part

Travel Agencies

You can submit your entry for the “Most Exceptional Sustainability Initiative Award by a Travel Agency” online by using our applications form.

How will initiatives be evaluated?
The projects submitted should pursue at least one of the following sustainability goals. We will accept entries and determine the winning initiatives based on the following criteria.
Innovation in product development and communication
Initiatives that raise awareness about sustainability causes to influence travel purchasing decision-making by consumers and foster education of employees.
Guidelines to prepare your application
Contribution to UN Sustainable Development Goals
Supporting one or various of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals as part of your commercial offering or company practises, both towards consumers or within your organisation.
Guidelines to prepare your application
Vision and leadership in implementing sustainability programs
Examples of sustainable practices in local communities in travel destinations, particularly with regards to environmental, social justice, integration and economic development.
Guidelines to prepare your application
Collaboration with stakeholders in the destination and in your home country
Tangible and productive collaboration with local communities in the destination or in the home country in order to address sustainability challenges.

Prizes

1st prize: 
EUR 10,000 budget for a joint marketing / communications campaign with Iberostar, centered around Sustainability.
The content, scope and timing of the campaign, as well as the media and/or channel chosen, will be agreed between Iberostar and the winner after the award ceremony.

All expenses-paid invitation for two people to an exclusive fam trip that will take you to find out more about the sustainability efforts at Iberostar resorts.

The project of the winner of the category "Best Sustainability Initiative Travel Agency" will be presented in 
fvw.

One representative of the winning travel agency will be invited to the fvw Congress in Valencia for the award ceremony.

2nd and 3rd prizes:
All expenses-paid invitation for two people to an exclusive fam trip to find out more about the sustainability efforts at Iberostar Resorts.


All prize winners will be able to use the Iberostar Sustainability Awards public endorsement on their email signatures, websites and other marketing and communication materials to support their company’s action on Sustainability commitments. 

Who can take part?
  • Travel Agencies that offer “sun and beach” package holidays and that have their primary source markets in Germany, Austria and/or Switzerland.
  • Initiatives presented must have been implemented in 2022 and/or 2023, or should be currently in the implementation phase with a tangible impact in 2023.

Is there a fee for entering the Iberostar Sustainability Awards?

No, participation in the competition is free of charge.

How are entries submitted?

You need to go to the application section and complete the required information. There is a limit of 5.000 characters to explain your initiative and you can also attach documents (PDF, video or other) to complement your entry.

What is the qualifying period for entries?

Initiatives entered must have been implemented in 2022 and/or 2023, or should be currently in the implementation phase with a tangible impact in 2023.

Can organisations submit multiple entries?

Yes, organisations can submit multiple entries. Each entry should be submitted separately.

When is the closing date for entries?

The closing date for entries will be midnight CEST, 31.05.2023.

How are the entries judged?

A panel of industry experts will vote independently on each entry.

What are the judges looking for in a submission?

Please read the specific criteria for each category in the section "How to take part". The core principle of the awards is to reward initiative that, in the judges' view, has the greatest contribution to a sustainability cause. This can be understood by its immediate performance metrics or its potential transformative impact. The more factual information you can provide – including any relevant supporting information –the more likely the judges are to positively consider your entry.

Can a collaboration be submitted to the Iberostar Sustainability Awards?

Yes, we welcome collaborations between different organisations. Although the initiative can only be entered by one organisation, when submitting the application organisations can list all involved stakeholders.

What happens if my submission is chosen as a finalist?

Category finalists will be announced by 31st August 2023. If your entry is selected as a finalist, judges may contact you to request additional information and/or clarifications from your initiative

When are the winners announced?

Winners will be announced at the fvw Kongress in Valencia, 20.-23rd of September 2023.
